Gölcük Earthquake happened on August 17 at 03.02. This date is a nightmare for many people. This earthquake influenced to a big area. It lasted for 45 seconds. The severity of earthquake was 7,5.
At the night of August 17, while people were sleeping, a strong earthquake shaked Marmara. Düzce, Sakarya, İstanbul, Kocaeli suffered harm. Many buildings collapsed and many people were at those buildings. A lot of people died and all of them were lost. Children were crying but their parents couldn't do anything. Cars were in wreckage and nobody could go somewhere. It was a terrible night. Everybody wanted to find their family, but many people couldn't find. Because a lot of ways were close and there were ruins at the city centre.
17.480 people died and 23.781 people were wounded. Many people
left their cities and went to other cities.
When you say "August 17" you can see a pain in those people's eyes.
Because everytime they hear this date, they live this earthquake again..
