Next time you eat a bar of chocolate, think about the long history its. Let's read it..

Chocolate came from South America. According to searches; The word 'kakao'  comes from the Aztec lenguage 'xocoatl'. It means bitter drink. But it can come in Latin 'Theobromocacao'. It means food of the Gods. We don't know which is correct.

Olmeks grew cacao tree in A.D. 600. After years, Mayas saw that an animal ate the seed in this tree. After that Mayas wanted to use seeds. They mixed the ground seeds with spices to make a spicy drink. They never added sugar.  Only special people could drink it. Kings, queens, priests, some traders, high ranking soldiers etc.. The locals couldn't taste it.  According to legends, Aztecs' king Montezuma was drinking 50 cups of chocolate in a day.

The Spain explorer Kristof Kolomb and Hernán Cortés tasted it in 16. century.  They took it back to Spain. There people added sugar and learned to make a sweet drink with chocolate. Over time people found new ways of using it. After  80 years, people started to sell bars of chocolate. And from there it spread in the entire world. Now, it is one of the most popular sweets all around the world.

I love chocolate, so much, and also I want to taste all kinds of this. Because chocolate most stimulating sweet for me. :)
